Argentina Population Grows 10% To 40 Million -Early Census Data
BUENOS AIRES -(Dow Jones)- Argentina's population has grown by over 10% during the last decade, bringing the total population to 40,091,359, according to preliminary data from the nationwide census conducted in October.
The census points to a decrease in the nationwide mortality rate, Norberto Itzcovich, the director of national statistics agency Indec, said in a televised press conference Friday.
Buenos Aires province continues to be the most heavily populated part of the country, with almost 39% of residents. Population density in the capital, Buenos Aires, grew to 14,185 people per square kilometer, up from 13,679 when the last census was conducted 10 years ago.
Women continue to outnumber men, with a nationwide average of 95.4 men to every 100 women. However, that ratio was sharply skewed in one of the country's wealthiest neighborhoods, the Recoleta area of Buenos Aires. In Recoleta, every 100 women have just 76 men living amongst them.
The census indicated that there are about 14.3 million households in the country.
