An excellent mid-tempo rock song with a social conscience. The song slowly builds with passion to an anthemic feel without ever becoming over the top. A song for our generation. From the album April Uprising.



#8. "Tighten Up" by The Black Keys
The funkiest blues-rock song of the year. It's just cool. From the album Brothers.


#7. "Hit The Ground Running" by These Electric Lives
An urgent plea to wake your own self up out of your societal induced coma and seize the day. Like a shot of adrenaline, the song becomes alive. Exceptional. From the album We See Light... .
 



#6. "Dancing On My Own" by Robyn
Musically upbeat, lyrically sad, but as far as pop music goes? There was nothing better than this electro-pop gem. From the album Body Talk.


#5. "Good Love" by Mary J. Blige & T.I.
Evoking a retro vibe with a killer horn section, some deep base and a percussive hand-clap, this is a feel good funky jam for those long hot summers.
