Oct. 15: Songwriter Cole Porter died on this date in 1964.



He was 73 when he died from kidney failure. 
Cole Porter, the multi-talented musician, singer, and composer was born in Peru, Indiana. Porter learned to play the violin at age 6, the piano at 8, and wrote his first operetta at 10.



He wrote songs both words and music for over 30 stage and film musicals. His works include the musical including "Kiss Me, Kate," "Du Barry Was a Lady," "Gay Divorce," "Anything Goes," "Paris," "Fifty Million Frenchmen," "Can-Can," and "High Society."
He has written songs for Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly among many others. Writing and composing songs such as "Begin the Beguine," "I Get a Kick Out of You," "I've Got You Under My Skin," "In the Still of the Night," "Night and Day," "At Long Last Love," "From Alpha to Omega," "You Never Know," "Let's Misbehave," "From Now On" and "My Heart Belongs to Daddy."

He was one of the greatest contributors to the Great American Songbook and Cole is one of the few Tin Pan Alley composers to have written both lyrics and music for his songs.
