American street poet, musician, author and spoken-word soul singer Gil Scott-Heron has passed away at the age of 62. He began his recording career in 1969 and is one the leading influences who helped foster such African-American music genres as hip hop and neo soul. He recorded 15 studio and 9 live albums in his career. The last being 2010's I'm New Here after a 16 year recording absence.
