Gerard Smith has passed away at the young age of 34. He had been battling lung cancer for some time. Smith played bass and keyboards for the art-rock band TV On The Radio. His work can be heard on the band's just released album Nine Types Of Light (2011).

"We are very sad to announce the death of our beloved friend and bandmate, Gerard Smith, following a courageous fight against lung cancer," the band's statement reads. "Gerard passed away the morning of April 20th, 2011. We will miss him terribly."
